Duke Reid

Duke Reid – New Release

For those not in the know, Arthur ‘Duke’ Reid was a record producer and DJ, running a popular
sound system in the 50’s and began producing records for Trojan. In the early sixties he found and
created Treasure Isle Records, named after the family business liquor store and opened above it.

Over the years, Reid had worked with a great variety of acts including Derrick Morgan, Jiving juniors,
Meldoians and Dominoes. His work with The Skatalites and The Supersonics was an integral part of
the emerging Rock Steady scene in Jamaica, with Reid considered one of the pioneers of ska and
rock steady.

To commemorate his work this April, Trojan Records have produced a collection of releases
celebrating the best of Duke Reid Presents and treasure isle recordings. Three compilations are
available on the Trojan Records website for order: double discs each of Ska, Rock Steady and Classic
Reggae, all record in Reid’s legendary studio. There is also a limited edition 7” vinyl featuring Ronald
Alphonso’s ska cover of Easter Bonnet and Feeling of Love by Wilburn ‘Stranger’ Cole and Ken
Boothe. Due for release on April 30th, you’ll have to be quick to grab one quick as copies are limited
to 500.

After nearly half a century of absence, the release of these long forgotten gems is a fitting tribute to
a much overlooked Jamaican legend. To order a copy or for more information on these records visit
