2013 Festival Guide
After visiting Croatia last year to check out Outlook and Dimensions festival it was clear to us that the full festival experience includes sun, sea and heavy bass whilst dancing on a beach and partying hard into the early hours.
We all know european festivals are where it’s at these days for an amazing travel experience with guarenteed sun, sea, stellar artists and usually alot cheaper than UK festivals with the added bonus of being a holiday all in one. So check out these festivals for something a bit different than the expected…

The line-up for this year’s Open’er Festival is expanding rapidly as more outstanding major acts confirm for 2013’s edition.
Open’er is proud to now announce: Editors and Skunk Anansie, who both return with new material, the cult Modest Mouse and the sensational Alt-J!
Editors are set to bring their upcoming fourth album to some of the world’s biggest and best festivals this summer. Currently recording in Nashville, Tennessee, the band are putting the final touches to the record that will follow 2009’s In This Light and On This Evening (Papillon, You Don’t Know Love), 2007’s An End Has a Start (Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors, The Racing Rats) and 2005’s The Back Room (Munich, Bullets). The band will be showcasing new material from the upcoming album as well as performing songs taken from their entire back catalogue.
Skunk Anansie needs no introduction to rock fans. Their last concert at Open’er was an unbelievable display of charisma and rock’n’roll craftsmanship. We are really happy as they reformed after 8 years of studio and live silence, and were counting for more. And we got it. Before taking their break, Skunk Anansie released three multi-platinum albums: “Paranoid And Sunburnt” (1995), “Stoosh” (1996) and “Post Orgasmic Chill” (1999), selling over 5 million copies worldwide. Since their memorable performance on Gdynia airfield, Skunk Anansie released two albums: 2010’s “Wonderlustre” and “Black Traffic”, released last September. Now we finally get to hear the songs off their most recent album live.
Modest Mouse’s first time in Poland will be a real celebration for fans of American alternative rock. Thanks to them, Open’er will witness a historical event, not unlike three years ago, when Pavement came to Poland. While their music was by turns taut and elliptical, and the lyrics sometimes cryptic and introspective, Modest Mouse broke through to the mainstream audience. With legendary albums “This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About”, “The Lonesome Crowded West”, “The Moon & Antarctica” and successful releases “Good News For People Who Love Bad News” and Billboard #1 “We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank”, we are very happy and proud to welcome this cult band, and expect to hear a set of new songs live.
Alt-J could write last year off as the best in their lives. What is so awesome about their debut “An Awesome Wave” are their excellent ideas and compositions, they mix folk, hip-hop, indie-rock, Americana songwriting, Oriental music, and even psychedelic sounds common to a few bands in this year’s line-up. Their intelligent compositions reminded more imaginative critics of Radiohead, but Alt-J speak their own language. The titles and lyrics on their debut album carry count-less references to books, films, even famous photographers. “An Awesome Wave” was chosen as record of the year by France’s leading music journal Les Inrockuptibles, became #5 in NME’s ‘Best Of 2012’ poll, and only just lost to Bobby Womack in Clash Magazines best of poll.

FIND & FOLLOW:
Echo Festival returns to Croatia from the 6 – 9th June 2013 and unveils it’s brand new location in Kanegra, just 45 mins from the airports of Pula and Trieste, and 1.30 hrs from Ljubljana. With a luxurious but intimate community setting, Echo Festival is unique, having made a distinctive mark last year with a broad selection of underground electronic artists, it is set once again to be one of the true Croatian festival hightlights throughout the forthcoming 2013 season.
The new festival site in Kanegra is situated near the picturesque town of Umag and boasts an idyllic location for an intimate festival soiree. Set on one of the most beautiful bays in Istria, immersed in Mediterranean vegetation and surrounded by deep woodland, Echo Festival will present a 4 days and 4 nights of perfectly programmed electronic frequencies, spanning multiple genres and generations of artists.
Echo are delighted to reveal their second wave of artists for 2013, they include the former first lady of M_nus – a driving force behind twenty-first century Techno, and a trio of some of the world’s most remarkable live performance DJs.
Magda is an artist who can never be pinned down, no matter the timeframe or time signature. Any one of the Detroit-raised artist’s sets or productions breed a rare feel of mystique and discovery. Her accidental entry into Detroit’s underground party scene as a teenager was the kick-start she needed for a lifelong love affair. In 1998, she joined M_nus and began touring the world as Richie Hawtin’s sole opener. Stylistically, Magda grooves through opposition – creating sets that are emotion-led yet clinical, having profound expertise with analogue and digital technology. Her sound is otherworldly but visceral; dark with a warm sense of beauty and grace. Magda’s DJing style has been encapsulated on her mix for London club Fabric ‘Fabric 49′ (a mix CD with as much artistry and vision as an original album). Magda’s label, ‘Items & Things’, always pinpoints the off-kilter and the uncommon, seeking out new artists and sounds that push boundaries.
We would tell you all about Redshape, but no one knows who he actually is. He hides his real identity behind a red mask at all times, even wearing it onstage at his club dates around Europe, which of late there have been many. We do know the man behind the mask lives in Berlin, he does a rocking live act and he’s released half a dozen tracks over the last year or so on labels such as Delsin and Music Man. We also can reveal he has studied a lot of old Detroit techno records: His sound is a new update on old school templates, and it’s getting a thorough rinsing by DJs as diverse as Laurent Garnier, Josh Wink, Âme and Cassy.
John Roberts creates music that is meticulous and loose, evocative and innovative. Raised in the so-called heart of America, John’s parents exposed him to classical and jazz music at an early age and encouraged his fifteen-year training on drums and violin. As he began to gain interest in contemporary European house and techno, John began working with analog synthesizers, antiquated sequencing software, and reel-to-reel tape machines. In 2008 Roberts was asked by Carsten Jost, Pantha Du Prince, and Lawrence to be the first American artist on their influential Dial Records imprint. The 2010 release of his debut album, “Glass Eights”, cemented his position as one of electronic music’s top innovators. 2013 will see the release of his second album, “Fences”.
Joining them will be Toi Toi featuring: Audio Werner, Voigtmann and Lamache. Audio Werner has made a great contribution to underground electronic music not only as a producer and DJ, but also as a live performer. During the past year he has been concentrating on his new live set that he performed for the first time at ‘Get Perlonized’ at Panorama Bar in November 2012 proving to be a huge success. He will debut this highly regarded live performance at Echo Festival 2013 this summer.
